Received Part II of my birthday gift from Angeline and Nura yesterday, it was a musical, Cinderel-LAH :P The entrance of the theatre at the Esplanade was full of children and well, adults like us too. Each of us was given a magic wand that could light up :) I felt like I was like one of the children, all excited about the musical. It felt like I had entered Disneyland too, it was as if that child in me had come very much alive! Hmm, I kinda miss going Disneyland...eating popcorns from a big tub, taking crazy kiddy rides, hugging every Disney character that you see as you walk along those lanes of fantasy...Stop dreaming, silly gal! Anyway, well, this musical was kinda like a fractured or twisted fairy tale of Cinderella, it has got lotsa local flavour in it. Most of the Singaporeans in the audience, including myself, were very much entertained by the wonderful cast but I was wondering if those ang mohs could understand some parts of it or what the performers had communicated. Not quite sure if they could completely relate or understand, hmm, maybe they would if they had stayed in Singapore long enough. Hmm, I guess two schools of thought...If we plan to enter the international scene in terms of drama and theatre, we may wanna adopt a more globish approach (for example, language). Well, there may be another group of people who do not wish to lose that local or Singapore flavour in what we have as that may be a form of identity for us and that has also got its appeal and attractiveness in the local context. What's your stand?
Silly me was also wondering if there's always a fairy tale that lives in all our hearts. But sometimes, amidst the reality and practicality of it all, this fairy tale just dies off and maybe forgotten forever...and maybe, there's no such thing as "happily ever after" anymore. If you still have that little fairy tale in your heart, I wish it will continue to live beautifully in your heart. Do you believe in angels? Please do, coz they do exist and every little gift matters :)
