The depth of life

I was sharing with the 40 under my charge about how I look into the mirror in the morning at times. I was sharing with them that at times when I look into the mirror, I don't see my face (this isn't meant to be spooky k :P). I see two choices glaring at me, at times fiercely: to be happy or not to be happy. Simple choices I guess but not sure if we all see these choices at times or make a choice out of the two. We are probably not perfect beings and hence, we are often blinded by certain things in life, we are discouraged by the disappointments that we have experienced, we are disheartened by the failures we have to go through, we are angry for not accomplishing certain goals, we are hurt through the interactions that we have with others. Well, nobody ever says it easy to bounce back, to forget or to heal...nobody. But I guess we have choices, we do. It's probably important that we take charge and choose according to what's wise for each self. Well, for me, this song is a good energy booster for all my early mornings, would also play it loud in the car while driving, shiok! Oops, pardon me for using a little Singlish :P Adele's strong vocal in this song never fails to pump zest and inject strength in one, well, at least in me. I guess this silly gal chooses to find means and ways to motivate herself and hopefully others, constantly reminding herself the simple reason for her existence in this world...

The Lonely

Heard this song in a shop and kinda immediately fell in love with it... I know it's Christina Perri that has made a difference to every song that she sings and therefore strikes a chord in the hearts of the listeners. You just know it when a singer sings from his or her heart, don't you?

Our loh hei and Kat's birthday celebration

The real special birthday gal, always 18 :)

My fifth Yu Sheng for CNY. It's never enough, isn't it?

My heart screamed, "Too much seafood this CNY!" But my gang of friends would not let me off, I still gotta finish a piece of it :P

Had dinner at Jumbo Seafood (Dempsey) yesterday, a loh hei to celebrate CNY cum birthday celebration for Kat. It had been quite some time since the whole big group met up and glad we did! We were already discussing about the next big meet up before Miss Tan leaves for her China trip :P Thanks Cons for initiating this one and sure looking forward to the next :)

Along the way...

Along the way...

The Forest Walk is one of the highlights of the Southern Ridges. It is a link between Telok Blangah Hill Park and Hort Park. Managed to take a walk through this Forest Walk Thursday morning. I thought it's refreshing to nestle ourselves amongst nature at times. I guess we never fail to learn important lessons from nature...peace, respect, silence and patience. And along the way as we tread on the path surrounded by luscious greenery, we would probably discover little things that may bring smiles on our faces. Don't go too fast in life, slow down, for every little detail is a beauty and a moment to be treasured.

Dinner before Didi left for DG

Fish tail...according to the boss, the sauce over the fish was specially made by the chef. Fish was really fresh, the sauce would go very well with rice but I thought it would be perfect if the sauce would be a little less salty, maybe less fermented beans in it?

Foochow vegetarian dish...subtle flavour and good enough to eat it on its own, without rice.

Prawn rolls...enjoyed the natural sweetness of the prawns, very unique!

My third Yu Sheng for this Lunar New Year

I think Mummy and Didi enjoyed the cold crabs. Not a real fan of crabs myself but I thought the meat was sweet and I loved it dipped in plum sauce.

Would you consider a restaurant that has been around for almost 17 years to be able to serve nice food and will continue to do so in the next 17 years in this fast-changing society of ours? Challenging, isn't it? But I am sure Singapura Seafood Restaurant (Selegie Road) has its group of loyal diners all these years, especially so for cold crabs lovers. We were scouting for a place for dinner before Didi left for DG last Sunday and my father suggested this restaurant (not sure how he came to know about it though :P). The restaurant kinda still retained its 80s decor and it seemed to bring back fond memories of where my grandparents used to live and the two restaurants that are located at the void deck.

Little Fish Shop...little?

Our dessert at Little Fish Shop...not bad but a little too many details going on on that plate :P

They almost forgot the lobster we ordered...but I think I would not mind giving that a miss.

The platter for two looked kinda yummy and huge when it was served at the table...loved the battered fish and fries. Well, maybe should give the fish and chips a go the next time. The aglio olio with mushroom was flavourful and I thought the pasta was cooked al dente.

Clam chowder, not my usual favourite...but reminded me of clam chowder I had at Boston

These two words, "food" and "friends", are always seemingly closely associated, especially so in my life. There are probably hardly any friends in my life who would tell me that they are going on a diet. Even if they were to tell me that they're going on a diet, that mission would eventually experience a natural death. We are too spoilt for choices where food is concerned. Or could it be more of determination, discipline and perseverance that are in play? Food seems to be an enjoyment in most people around me or well, do we usually seek solace in good food? Anyway, I guess no matter what kinda food, let's just be thankful that we have food served in front of us and hunger is not a basic need that's not met in our lives.

Caught up with Shirley and Edmond over a makan session last weekend. We had lunch at "Little Fish Shop" at NEX, a restaurant that we thought we had not been. We had our teh peng at Toastbox after lunch. Goodness, almost spent the whole afternoon chatting, eating and drinking. Edmond, glad that you have made that decision, good for you! I guess at the end of the day, it is important to know that we have tried :)
